  • The PLAR request must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office during the first study session. The Registrar’s Office can refuse any assessment and its decision is without appeal.
  • Advanced standing credits are awarded strictly for existing courses at Saint Paul University, as part of a student's program of study, and offered at the University within the last 24 months. 
  • A maximum of 30 credits can be granted for prior learning recognition. Advanced standing credits appear on the official transcript, but do not count in Saint Paul University’s residency requirements. Credits obtained for prior learning recognition might not be recognized by accreditation/licensing bodies and/or professional associations.

PLAR Costs

Provides students with the cost of completing a PLAR assessment (challenge exam, course challenge, portfolio, etc.).

A PLAR assessment at Saint Paul University costs $20.00 to have your request's eligibility examined and $250.00 for the assessment itself, if deemed eligible. All fees are non-refundable.
