Terms for renewal or cancellation

This agreement is subject to review whenever either party makes curricular changes that impact the agreement. When a change occurs, the program departments will notify their respective articulation designates so that the agreement can be updated.

Articulation designates at each institution will review the agreement annually to ensure it is current. This Agreement may be terminated by either party. In this case, notice of one year is required. In the event of termination of the Agreement, every effort will be made to ensure that students currently enrolled in the program will not be affected.

Eligibility for Pathway

To qualify for this agreement, students must have:

  • successfully completed Fleming College’s Early Childhood Education Diploma;
  • a minimum overall average of 75%. 

Students meeting the above requirements will be eligible to enroll in the Teacher Education Stream, Primary/Junior Stream, at Trent University. As part of the pathway, Trent University commits to waiving the written component of the application and will admit students to the program. Admission to the Teacher Education Stream does not guarantee admission to the Bachelor of Education program at Trent University. Students wishing to pursue the Teacher Education Stream should apply to Psychology and e-mail admissions@trentu.ca to advise of their plan to enroll in the stream.

Students will be granted 5.0 credits, including:

  • 0.5 PSYC 1020H - Introduction to Psychology Part I: Experimental and Biological Bases of Behaviour
  • 0.5 PSYC 2500H - Child Development
  • 1.0 CHYS 4800Y - Placement - Field Based Learning
  • 0.5unassigned Child and Youth Studies credit at the 1000 level
  • 2.5 unassigned Arts credit at the 1000 level

Anticipated normal schedule of student progression

Approximately 3 academic years.

Students pursuing the pathway are required to complete a 0.5 credit summer term bridge for direct entry to year 2 of the Psychology degree at Trent. Students are required to complete PSYC 1030H: Introduction to Psychology Part 2: Social and Personality Perspectives in the summer term following graduation from Fleming College and before September study begins at Trent.

Should a student wish to not enroll in the bridge from Early Childhood Education to Psychology it will take a student longer than 3 academic years to complete all required courses and there will be missing pre-requisites and select course sequencing issues for degree requirement completion.
